Cascade taps changing tastes with mid-strength Draught

The Tasmanian brewery – which is also Australia’s oldest – has developed the beer to cater to the national cultural shift towards moderation, with no-, low- and mid-strength beers now accounting for more than 30 per cent of Australian beer sales. Believed to be Cascade’s first-ever mid-strength beer, Cascade Draught 3.5% features just one standard drink per can.

A classic Australian lager, Cascade Draught 3.5% has a hop aroma, balanced malt character and crisp finish, retaining the familiar hint of bitterness found in its full-strength counterpart. Cascade Brewery’s Head of Manufacturing Brendan Flanagan says the new release was designed to give Tasmanians a mid-strength option that delivers the flavour and character people expect from the much-loved beer.

“Cascade Draught has been part of Tasmania for more than six decades, so when we created a mid-strength version, we knew we had to get it right. This is a good example of how we’re investing to ensure Cascade continues to brew beer in Tasmania for Tasmanians for years to come.”

Proud Tasmanian and AFL legend Jack Riewoldt was among the first to try the new beer, giving it the Tassie tick of approval. “It’s perfect for a catch-up with mates camping in the wilderness or watching footy at North Hobart Oval. I love a Cascade but sometimes don’t want a full-strength.

Continuing the brewery’s longstanding commitment to Tasmania, the new brew is available exclusively from the Cascade Brewery Bar in Hobart and from select independent Tasmanian bottle shops and pubs.
