Cascade caters to changing tastes with its medium-strength draft beer

Cascade Brewery has launched a new medium-alcohol beer, Cascade Draught 3.5%, which replicates the signature flavor profile of its flagship regular-alcohol beer, Cascade Draught.

The Tasmanian brewery, which is also Australia's oldest, developed this beer to adapt to the national cultural shift towards moderation, where non-alcoholic, low-alcohol, and mid-alcohol beers now account for over 30% of beer sales in Australia. Cascade Draught 3.5%, Cascade's first mid-alcohol beer, is believed to contain only one standard drink per can.

Cascade Draught 3.5%, a classic Australian lager, has a hoppy aroma, a balanced malt character and a refreshing finish, while retaining the characteristic bitterness of its high-alcohol version.

Brendan Flanagan, head of production at Cascade Brewery, says the new release was designed to offer Tasmanians a mid-alcohol option that delivers the flavor and character people expect from this much-loved beer.

“Cascade Draught has been a part of Tasmania for over six decades, so when we created a mid-alcohol version, we knew we had to get it right. This is a good example of how we are investing to ensure Cascade continues to brew beer in Tasmania for Tasmanians for many years to come.”

Jack Riewoldt, proud Tasmanian and AFL legend, was one of the first to try the new beer, giving it his seal of approval.

“It’s perfect for chatting with friends while camping in the great outdoors or watching an Australian Rules football match at the North Hobart Oval. I love Cascade, but sometimes I don’t fancy a beer with such a high alcohol content. The 3.5% Cascade Draught will be ideal for when I want to consume less alcohol, as it retains the crispness and flavor of the original,” said Riewoldt.

As a sign of the brewer's long-standing commitment to Tasmania, the new beer is available exclusively at the Cascade Brewery Bar in Hobart and at select liquor stores and independent pubs across Tasmania.
