The variations and unique ingredient combinations are endless. Olive oil? Beets?
Mayonnaise? We’ve compiled a handful to inspire you when that next craving strikes!
Instead of using eggs and oil, this recipe calls for mayonnaise to add moisture to the cake layers. Edible Northeast Florida adapted this recipe from The Saltwater Table: Recipes from the Coastal South. The team at Edible Michiana loves desserts that take just a few ingredients from the pantry and farmers market to make an easy, sophisticated treat.
This dense, moist cake plays well with the earthiness of raw beets. Serve this cake as an after-dinner dessert or with afternoon coffee or tea.
This one is called a “nude” cake because the cake is visible under the mascarpone cocoa frosting on the sides. As seen in the photo, Beatrice Peltre who shared this recipe with Edible Boston chose to pipe a few flowers on the side of the cake with the leftovers of the chocolate frosting.
Adding raspberries on top is an aesthetic and flavor-packed match made in heaven Jennifer Borden, professional baker and friend of Edible Rhody says you’ll have even better results with this deliciously moist chocolate cake and accompanying sauce if you use the best chocolate.
For this recipe, she used Cacao Barry Extra Brute 100% Cocoa Powder and Valrhona 70% Cacao Dark Chocolate. Hot chocolate sauce and mascarpone whipped cream provide extra decadent flavor and presentation.
