People are just finding out they've been eating Marmite 'wrong' all this time

Recipe developer Amy Sheppard has claimed most people are eating Marmite 'wrong', as adding one extra step when preparing it makes it 'so much better', claiming even Marmite haters will love it For over a decade now, Marmite has been one of Britain's most polarising food products due to its unique, salty flavour. People are just finding out they've been eating Marmite 'wrong' all this time
“When you grill it, it doesn't look much different, does it? But the Marmite goes really sticky and gooey, and has this kind-of chewy, caramelised flavour to it. It's so good.”

And those who like the spread tend to be rather specific about their preferred way of consuming it. While it's most commonly added to a piece of toast, some prefer a generous layer of it, while others just want a tiny layer of it to add some flavour.

But you don't have to stop there, as there are also people who rave about adding a spoonful into pasta dishes. However, one woman believes the majority of people have been consuming Marmite incorrectly throughout their lives - and she's adamant you shouldn't be eating it 'raw'.

Posting on TikTok, recipe developer and content creator Amy Sheppard, who has also written a cookbook, declared: "You have got to stop eating raw Marmite." In the accompanying caption, she added: "This is going to change your Sunday morning Marmite toast... Forever."

Amy also suggested it would probably 'blow your mind'. So what's her method?

Amy proceeded to demonstrate how she prepares what she describes as 'grilled Marmite' or 'baked Marmite'. Initially, she takes two slices of bread, toasting one side beneath the grill.

On the untoasted surface, she then applies a coating of butter, followed by a 'nice, thick layer of Marmite', saying it should be a thicker layer than what you'd normally add to toast. She subsequently returns the slices, Marmite side facing upwards, beneath the grill until they achieve a 'golden brown, and crisp and bubbly' finish.

She explained: "When you grill it, it doesn't look much different, does it? But the Marmite goes really sticky and gooey, and has this kind-of chewy, caramelised flavour to it.

It's so good." Amy went as far as suggesting that even those who dislike Marmite would likely enjoy this combination.

Enthusiastic Marmite devotees were eager to give it a go themselves, with one commenting: "I eat Marmite every day for brekky. Going to try this." Another chimed in: "[Be right back], heading to the kitchen to try this immediately."

Fellow fans also weighed in with their own preferred Marmite pairings, including Marmite with peanut butter and crispy bacon, as well as Marmite and cheese sandwiches. One contributor suggested: "Try poached eggs on Marmite on toast..." while another recommended: "Try Marmite on your steak. Cook one side, turn it over then spread it on the cooked side and then leave it to rest as normal mmmm."
