Located just a stone’s throw away from East Village, Simpang Bedok is another popular place for many foodies to visit as its home to many well-known eateries and restaurants. In case you’ve never been there before, here’s our list of the best Simpang Bedok food places for your easy reference.

• 1. Jalan Tua Kong Lau Lim

If you’re a BCM connoisseur, you’ve definitely heard of Lau Lim Mee Pok, a household name in Singapore. They’re known for their Dry Mee Pok ($6/$7/$8) that comes with a generous serving of minced meat, sliced pork, fish cakes, handmade fishballs, and bean sprouts. If mee pok is not your preferred noodle, they also offer yellow noodles, mee kia, kway teow, or bee hoon.

To share, get the Handmade Fishball Soup ($6/$7/$8) that is also highly popular among customers. The irregularly shaped fishballs—proof that they’re handmade—are said to be highly chewy and delicious.

If you’re craving some desserts after your meal, visit Selegie Soyabean for their traditional desserts and soya bean drinks! They have your usual favourites—the Classic Soymilk or Grass Jelly Drink, both priced at $1.70. They also offer unique items such as Peppermint Soymilk With Pearl ($2.50) and Bandung Soymilk With Pearl ($2.80).

For desserts, opt for their Soya Beancurd With Glutinous Rice Balls ($2.70). You can choose between black sesame, peanut, or red bean for the filling in the rice balls too.

Dajie Makan Place is a halal-certified eatery serving Chinese food, such as Mala Xiang Guo (from $3.50), Mala Grilled Fish ($27.20), and Hotpot (from $28.80). They also serve Mookata (price TBD) with ingredients such as crayfish, prawns, and various types of marinated meats, and three different soup bases for you to choose from!

Founder Bak Kut Teh is one of the OG names in the BKT scene, with over 40 years of history! It’s no surprise that they’re on our list of best bak kut teh in Singapore. A must-try item is the Founder Bak Kut Teh ($10.20) which comes with hot peppery soup and a mixture of premium loin ribs and short ribs.

Get the Sliced Lean Meat Soup ($8.10) containing pork slices and lettuce for something less fatty. You can add $1 for a bowl of Rice or $2 for Vermicelli.

Supa Deck (or Supper Deck) is a restaurant serving halal Asian and Western cuisine in a very chill and vibey environment. They have an extensive menu, with items ranging from burgers to satays!

Try their Ultimate Deck ($14.90++), served with an Australian chuck patty, slow-cooked brisket, chilli con carne, and fries. The Smoked Salmon Carbonara ($16.90++) is a good choice for seafood lovers too! If you prefer Asian cuisine, something you should try is the Nasi Goreng Supperdeck ($12.90++), which comprises Indonesian fried rice, marinated grilled chicken, sunny-side-up, and keropok.

Since 2021, Hamidah’s Kitchen has offered a variety of dishes from Arabic and Indian cuisines, with the recipes slightly altered to suit local tastes. Their speciality is Bamia (from $10), a type of savoury stew consisting of lady’s fingers, lamb, and tomatoes. If lamb is not your thing, try their Butter Chicken ($12), said to be extremely tender and delicious!

Another well-known restaurant amongst residents is Badoque, a Muslim-owned cafe that serves Western cuisine. The Crispy Buttermilk Chicken ($16) and the 350g Sirloin ($30) are popular choices too.

If you prefer seafood, their Fish and Chips ($18) is also available. Priced at $6.50 for all house-made drinks, we recommend trying the Watermelon Cooler or Iced Lemon Barley to quell the heat!

Mr Kneady’s offers hand-made artisanal sourdough pizzas that are made fresh upon order. You can’t go wrong with the Space Oddity ($19) comprising tomato sauce, salami, pepperoni, and mozzarella.

This combination is also not too salty or cloying, with a good balance between all the ingredients. If cream-based pizzas are your thing, we recommend the Remedy ($19), which comes with garlic sauce, smoked chicken, red onions, and mozzarella cheese.
