Goldhill Family Restaurant: Affordable Cai Png From $2 In Hougang

Snaking long queues that often stretch into the after-lunch hours is the norm for Goldhill Family Restaurant, a humble cai png stall in Hougang selling economy rice from $2.

Plus, they boast over 500 reviews and a 4.5-star rating on Google, so it is no wonder they see a large crowd on the daily. Cai png AKA economy rice is what most Singaporeans would consider an everyday staple.

Though cai png is one of the cheapest options at hawker centres or kopitiam, a plate can easily cost more than $4 or $5, especially in today’s economy. But at Goldhill Family Restaurant, prices are kept low. In fact, their popularity comes from the commitment to stay reasonably priced despite the fluctuating prices of most eateries.

Here, you can get a filling plate of rice, one meat, and a vegetable of your choice for as low as $2. If you want more liao, you can get one meat and two vegetables, or just two meat choices for $2.50!

The restaurant has a certain old-school charm, and it’s no challenge to spot the stall thanks to the conspicuous signboard in red. The seating space, however, is pretty limited with about four tables in total, so you might want to take note if you are hoping to dine in. But worry not, they are available for takeaway, which is what most customers opt for instead.

Economy rice aside, their fried chicken wings are another crowd favourite. They are said to be juicy and flavourful, somehow retaining the crispy texture even during takeaway. Each piece is priced at $1.10!

We recommend dropping by early to try the chicken wings as they tend to clear out pretty quickly in the day. FYI, the nearest train station to Goldhill Family Restaurant is Hougang MRT Station.
