FairPrice Launches Kopi Potato Chips That Taste Like The Real Thing

In celebration of SG60, FairPrice has rolled out a new range of unique potato chips, and one of them is said to taste just like your morning kopi. A nod to everyone’s favourite Nanyang-style coffee, the new Kopi Potato Chips ($1.95, U.P. $2.50) are a limited-time snack under the FairPrice housebrand.

After trying these kopi-flavoured chips, here are our honest thoughts. Once you open the bag of chips, you’re hit with a strong aroma, just like a cup of freshly brewed kopi-o from a kopitiam.

Scent-wise, the resemblance to the actual drink is uncanny. The coffee fragrance is bold and heady, with a buttery hint reminiscent of how Hainanese kopi is made: by roasting coffee beans with margarine to achieve that signature rich aroma. Although they nailed the scent, the coffee note was noticeably lacking in these chips.

It was rather confusing as I could only smell the kopi, but not taste it. Instead, these chips simply tasted like regular salted potato chips, with no distinct flavour coming through.

If you’d like something more conventional, consider the Laksa and Black Pepper flavours instead. The former is reminiscent of the iconic hawker dish we know and love, with notes of creamy coconut milk, curry, and chilli, while the latter is peppery and punchy, drawing inspiration from the popular zi char dish.

These SG60-exclusive potato chips are going for $1.95 per packet from now till 31 July 2025. Thereafter, they’ll be priced at $2.50 each.
