In the Huertas neighborhood of Madrid lies one of the great hotspots of Spanish beer culture, known as Los Gatos Madrid. It's one of the city's most legendary taverns, attracting locals and tourists alike since 1987, all eager to experience the true essence of traditional Madrid beer.

Whether it's for its culinary offerings or its historic decor filled with curiosities, old photographs, and memorabilia, this place has become a cult favorite, even for celebrities like the Rolling Stones when they visit Madrid. While this isn't the only traditional bar they adore in the capital, Taberna Ángel Sierra, located in Plaza de Chueca, also embodies that same traditional spirit beloved by Madrid locals.

The story of Los Gatos

Miguel, a restaurateur from the Costa del Sol, transformed an old haberdashery into this bar where you can enjoy perfectly poured beers and vermouth on tap, along with tapas and small plates such as gildas (anchovy, olive, and pepper skewers), homemade croquettes, and his famous sirloin toast with goat cheese, one of the bar's most popular dishes. His menu also features other classics like Spanish omelet, marinated anchovies, and his selection of Iberian cured meats.

The legacy that Miguel started continues to evolve now under the guidance of Juan López and Lola Creagh, as a place that, despite the contemporary wave of neo-taverns, has managed to maintain its essence and roots as one of the great benchmarks of Madrid's gastronomy.
