Juicy recipes

There are sheet cakes that are particularly moist – for example, due to a delicious filling or the use of fruit. Sheet cake recipes with pudding stand out in particular, as do delicious creations with quark or sour cream, such as a sheet cake cheesecake.

Which sheet metal is suitable?

As the name suggests, sheet cakes are traditionally baked on a baking sheet. Standard baking sheets are approximately 30 x 40 cm. Deep baking sheets are particularly suitable to provide enough space for batter and toppings. Alternatively, you can also use rectangular baking sheets. For smaller quantities of batter, casserole dishes are also an option.

Tip: If you prefer not to use baking paper, you can grease the baking sheet with margarine or butter and then sprinkle it with breadcrumbs. This makes it particularly easy to remove the cake from the sheet after baking.

How many people does a sheet cake serve?

Depending on the size of the baking sheet, a sheet cake serves 10 to 20 people. Depending on the recipe, the sheet cake can be cut into smaller or larger pieces. Particularly dense and moist cakes, such as brownies, can easily be cut into 20 smaller portions, as their consistency and density often make them more filling.

How long do sheet cakes keep?

Depending on the recipe, sheet cakes will keep for 2 to 4 days. Sheet cakes made with a batter base, such as marble cake, can be stored at room temperature if airtight or well covered. Sheet cakes with creamy toppings or fillings, as well as moist cakes with fruit, should be refrigerated. They will keep for 1–2 days.

Most sheet cakes freeze well. Divide the cake into portions and wrap the pieces in airtight containers. However, keep in mind that the texture of cakes with fruit or creams may change when thawed or reheated. Refer to the recipe instructions for specific information.
