The fastest way to heat tortillas takes 30 seconds or less
For tacos, quesadillas, or burritos, corn or flour tortillas should be warm and pliable, and the microwave is the fastest method.
The type of tortilla makes all the difference when preparing the perfect taco. Corn or flour tortillas are rigid and difficult to handle if they aren't hot, unless it's a taco made with a hard tortilla. There are several methods, depending on the flavor you're looking for and the time you have available.
Microwaves heat quickly, but not all foods heat well with their waves. Tortillas, for example, are best cooked soft, just like they are after microwaving. However, it's advisable to cook them in short bursts and with some humidity in the microwave to prevent burning.
Cook them four at a time at most. Place a damp paper towel over the stack and heat them for no more than 30 seconds at a time, because they will harden if heated too long. Once heated, keep them stacked to retain the heat.
The microwave is the fastest method, but it doesn't give the crispy, toasted flavor of a skillet or a flame, which take a few minutes. To add flavor, drizzle the tortillas with a little lime juice before heating them. It's a subtle touch that will be noticeable in burritos, enchiladas, or any other dish.
