Andrew Zimmern's writing routine revolves around food
Many writers use food as a source of inspiration or distraction while they work, and chef Andrew Zimmern has his own routine.

Hunter S. Thompson, the famous journalist and author, had a writing routine that included grapefruit, gin, Chartreuse, coffee, and orange juice, according to the book "Hunter: The Strange and Wild Life of Hunter S. Thompson." Horror novelist Stephen King, meanwhile, told Bon Appétit that he prefers to eat a slice of cheesecake before each writing session because he considers sweets a kind of "brain food."
Andrew Zimmern is best known for his television shows, such as "Bizarre Foods," "Family Dinner," and "The Zimmern List," but this globetrotting chef has also written numerous cookbooks. His writing ritual is decidedly healthy, unlike that of other authors who tend to give in to more primal cravings when crafting the perfect story or article.
In an interview with the Travel Channel, Zimmern describes a routine he follows "almost every day of the year when I'm not traveling." His favorite place to write is the kitchen, where he has his favorite snack: a scrambled egg sandwich on toast. He writes for about two hours every night, when his family is fast asleep.
After his workout and a snack, he walks his dog and goes to bed around 2 a.m. He gets up again at 7:30 a.m. to start the day with energy. Even so, he takes one day a month to sleep for 15 hours straight, which led his wife to nickname him "Sleepy Camel."
His taste in food goes far beyond sandwiches. His favorite restaurant is Shuang Cheng in Minnesota, which offers an excellent selection of Cantonese cuisine; there, he never tires of the chicken wings and fried rice. In Japan, Koshin serves horsehair sashimi, a fatty piece of meat eaten raw beneath the mane. In San Francisco, Incanto makes pasta with fatty pork rind instead of dough.
