Si sabes asar patatas, puedes hacer patatas fritas caseras

When it comes to potatoes, the possibilities are endless. From fries and potato croquettes to chips and potato croquettes, potatoes can be transformed into a dozen delicious side dishes. Think you've tried them all? Let us introduce you to homemade fries.

While rustic fries might not be the most common way to eat potatoes, that doesn't mean they aren't just as delicious as thin or curly fries. What makes them unique is their thick, round shape, as well as being crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. In other words, they're like potato chips, but bigger for winter.

Making homemade fries is much easier than traditional French fries, as it doesn't require soaking, drying, or frying them multiple times. You simply need large potatoes (Russets work wonderfully), slice them into 1.2 cm thick rounds, and drizzle them with olive oil and your favorite seasonings (such as salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika). Then, roast them in the oven for 30 to 40 minutes at 220 degrees Celsius (don't forget to turn them halfway through the cooking time) to enjoy hot, golden fries.

Tips for customizing your homemade fries

Homemade fries are undoubtedly delicious on their own, but there are many ways to give them a special touch to make them even tastier. Since they have more surface area than regular fries, there's plenty of room for seasonings to shine. Experiment with spices and use cayenne, chili powder, or even a classic like Old Bay seasoning for a bolder flavor. Or, you can go for the opposite: cinnamon, sugar, and a drizzle of maple syrup for a rich and delicious dessert.

The round, flat shape of French fries is also perfect for adding lots of toppings and turning this side dish into a complete meal. For example, take inspiration from a baked potato and top your fries with bacon bits, cheese, and sour cream. Or top them with avocado and seasonings for an upgraded version of avocado toast. Don't forget to pair your fries with hearty main dishes, like a Juicy Lucy burger or a classic pepper steak.
