Grandma's Grated Apple Bun. A dessert that has been prepared by several generations of women

Grandma's Grated Apple Bun. A dessert that has been prepared by several generations of women

Desserts full of juicy apples that melt in your mouth! Grated apples make the dough soft and fragrant, so no one will resist it. It will be ready in no time, with ingredients you have at home. Try it today!

Beginning cooks are reluctant to embark on more complex recipes, even if they are very popular with the whole family. It is more appropriate for them to delve into the secrets of cooking gradually and slowly, to learn how the raw materials and ingredients react with each other and what they ultimately become. My beginnings were the same – a few black bricks instead of buns, and in the end I was very happy to return to the beginning, to the advice of my mother and grandmother.

Simple bun with grated apples

The apple cake recipe is very easy even for beginners because it uses cups to measure the ingredients. I use a cup just for this purpose. It holds 200 ml.

  • 3 cups of semi-coarse flour
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1/2 cup of oil
  • 1 baking powder and 3–4 large apples

We can use cinnamon, lemon zest, or even a little rum for flavoring.

Cut the unpeeled apples into quarters, remove the cores and grate them on a coarse grater.

Whisk all other ingredients in a deep bowl into a compact dough and add the grated apples.

Grease the baking sheet with butter and sprinkle with coarse flour. Pour the well-mixed dough onto it and bake.

I tried it for you: Every bun can be enriched in some way. Sometimes I use chopped nuts, sometimes raisins soaked in rum, I color the dough with cocoa, or I sprinkle the surface of the bun with slivered almonds before baking.

How to decorate a bun with grated apples

Sweet crumbs

The dough with grated apples does not have to be baked only on a baking sheet. I also use the same dough to make small muffins, a sponge cake, a sandwich or a venison loin (be careful not to overcook it). You just need to slightly adjust the amount of dough or bake two cakes at once. One will look good with chocolate icing and the other with lemon icing. I cut the finished cake on the baking sheet into slices or cubes and sometimes I don't even have time to transfer them to a tray as the diners quickly take them apart.
