Lucie's pastry shop in Žižkov preserves classic sweets and its windmill
At Lucie pastry shop in the Žižkov district of Prague, the windmill costs 69 CZK and the Turkish coffee 35 CZK.
The Žižkov district in Prague retains its distinctive character: it boasts the highest concentration of bars, pubs, and restaurants in a small area, and some classic shops remain. Among them, Cukrárna Lucie stands out, located at the end of Hartigova Street, formerly known as Koněvova Street. Rumor has it that the best windmills in the area are found here.
It's an unassuming pastry shop specializing in traditional desserts. Their menu includes apple pie for 32 CZK, punch cake for 38 CZK, coconut cake for 46 CZK, and a crown-shaped pastry for 48 CZK. In a place where older women gather for coffee and something sweet, it's hard to find a better spot for a snack.
For more modern tastes, the menu includes tiramisu and carrot cake. The coffee has also been revamped: a classic Turkish coffee costs 35 CZK, a Viennese coffee with whipped cream 58 CZK, and an Algerian coffee with egg liqueur 85 CZK. A latte is around 65 CZK.
The Windmill pastry, at 69 CZK, is a generous portion. The pastry is well-prepared and the cream filling is so rich you'll want another.
The Indian dessert, at 39 CZK, was too sweet and the sponge cake wasn't up to par, so I wouldn't order it on a future visit. The latte, on the other hand, had the quality you'd expect from coffee and whipped milk.
Cukrárna Lucie is the perfect place for authentic nostalgia and classic desserts. Its facade is unassuming, but the interior offers a pleasant atmosphere, quality products, and friendly service, giving you the feeling of being almost in the heart of Prague. At the bottom of Hartigova Street, the windmill is also worth a visit.
