Fogón Asado, in Buenos Aires, receives TripAdvisor's award for best restaurant in the world
Its fixed menu of roast meats, cooked in front of the diners, has taken it to the top of the customer reviews ranking.
Anyone looking for good meat in Buenos Aires doesn't have to go far. Asado is part of the country's culinary essence, and Fogón Asado takes it to another level: here, the grill doesn't just serve the meat, but presents it as a tasting menu, with different cuts, explanations, and a pre-established sequence.
The concept is more like a wine tasting than a traditional steakhouse. Diners sit at a round table next to the grill, and dish after dish is prepared over the fire in front of them. They can choose a nine-course or fourteen-course menu.
The team explains the cuts, breeds, regions of origin, and animal feed, making the meat the focus of the tasting. Meals begin at set times, both at midday and in the evening, and reservations are generally required.
The restaurant, located in the Palermo neighborhood, has a rather unassuming appearance and now boasts two branches in the area. Approximately half of the grill's staff are women, a rarity in a country where barbecue has traditionally been a male-dominated activity.
The concept is not focused solely on meat: the restaurant also offers vegetarian and vegan menus.
The award, Travellers' Choice Best of the Best, is based on customer reviews, not a panel of food critics. With over 4,300 reviews and an average rating of 4.9 out of five stars, the numbers speak for themselves.
