Spicy Apple Cider Chai Latte for cold days

Spicy Apple Cider Chai Latte for cold days

As the days grow shorter and the temperatures drop, the desire for warming drinks naturally increases. Besides the familiar classics, the colder months offer plenty of room for aromatic experimentation in your cup. An Apple Cider Chai Latte combines two absolute autumn favorites into a harmonious whole.

Ingredients · Servings 1
  • 100 ml apple cider (or naturally cloudy apple juice)
  • 150 ml milk (of your choice)
  • 1 tsp chai spice mix
  • 1/4 TL Vanilleextrakt
  • 1 tsp maple syrup
  • 1 pinch of cinnamon and nutmeg (for dusting)
  • 1 cinnamon stick (for serving)
Method · 10 min
  1. Pour the apple cider into a small saucepan and heat it together with the chai spice or tea bag.
  2. Heat the milk in a separate saucepan with the chai spice and vanilla extract. Let the milk tea steep for about 5 minutes and then strain it through a sieve to remove the tea powder.
  3. Froth the milk.
  4. Pour the frothed milk into a glass or mug. Fill it up with hot apple cider.
  5. Sprinkle the Apple Cider Chai Latte with a little cinnamon and nutmeg.
  6. Garnish with the cinnamon stick and serve!

Recipe for Apple Cider Chai Latte: warm, sweet, spicy

Apples are a defining ingredient in autumnal cuisine like few others. Their natural sweetness harmonizes perfectly with robust spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and cardamom. This very spice profile also forms the heart of a classic chai latte. Black tea is brewed with an intense blend of spices and then enriched with rich milk. This base is extremely adaptable and lends itself beautifully to seasonal variations. While versions with pumpkin puree or gingerbread spice are very common, the addition of apple brings a subtle acidity that pleasantly lightens the full-bodied drink.

Mixing a creamy milk tea with a fruity cider might sound unusual at first, but it follows a clear culinary logic. The tannins in the black tea give the drink structure, while the milk provides a velvety mouthfeel. The warm apple cider contributes a fruity freshness that breaks up the richness of the tea. For a cozy evening version, you can opt for an alcoholic cider or apple wine. For everyday enjoyment, naturally cloudy apple juice works just as well. Both options bring the typical apple aroma, which blends seamlessly into the spiced world of the chai.

The secret to a truly great chai latte lies in the steeping process. Instead of simply brewing the tea in water, you heat the milk directly together with your preferred chai blend and a touch of vanilla extract. Fat is an excellent flavor carrier, allowing the milk to absorb the essential oils of the spices far more effectively than plain water. Leave the mixture off the heat for a few minutes to allow its full aroma to develop. This brief wait is rewarded with a significantly deeper and more complex flavor profile.

While the spiced milk rests, gently warm the apple cider in a separate saucepan. Be careful not to let it boil vigorously, as excessive heat will quickly evaporate the delicate fruity notes. Once the milk has taken on the dark, aromatic color of the tea, froth it vigorously. The incorporated air makes the drink noticeably lighter on the palate. Pour the frothy chai into a large mug and carefully top it off with the warm cider. A sprinkle of ground cinnamon and a little nutmeg on the milk foam will ensure that the aroma of the spices wafts up to you even before the first sip. Finally, a cinnamon stick makes an ideal decorative substitute for a spoon for stirring.
